His Broadway debut came in 1962 with "The Affair," followed by numerous other productions, including a notable performance in "My Fair Lady." He notably played Sherlock Holmes in "The Crucifer of Blood" (1978-1979), sharing the stage with Glenn Close.

Whitehead's son, Charles, confirmed to Fox News Digital that his father passed away in a hospital in Arlington, Virginia, following complications from a fall a week earlier.
