AI Takes Center Stage: ChatGPT Officiates Colorado Wedding

In a modern twist on tradition, a Colorado couple enlisted the help of artificial intelligence to officiate their wedding. Reece Wiench and Deyton Truitt, who tied the knot at the Historic Morrison Church in Morrison, Colorado, chose ChatGPT to oversee their nuptials.

With Truitt's impending Army deployment and Wiench's plans to join him after basic training, the couple organized their wedding in just five days. The bride's father, Stephen Wiench, suggested using ChatGPT as a more convenient and cost-effective officiant, given Colorado's relaxed regulations on wedding officiants.

Initially, the chatbot was reluctant, stating its lack of physical presence. However, the persistent couple provided ChatGPT with personal details to personalize the ceremony. They even informed their 30 guests that an AI would be officiating, sharing a message composed by the chatbot itself.

The couple admitted to not knowing exactly what the AI would say during the ceremony, adding an element of surprise. A robot mask placed over a speaker completed the illusion of a physical officiant. ChatGPT's remarks, which included personalized references to guests traveling from out of state, were well-received.

While ChatGPT played a significant role in the ceremony, the couple wrote their own vows. Both the couple and their guests expressed satisfaction with the AI-officiated wedding, with Wiench noting that ChatGPT enhanced the personal and human aspect of the event.
