Billy Ray responded by sharing a poignant clip from his 2009 music video "Somebody Said a Prayer," featuring Trace, on his YouTube channel. His caption expressed gratitude, prayers for his family, including his children and their mother, Tish Cyrus, and a hope for healing. The message emphasized that "The past does not equal the future."
Billy Ray and Tish divorced in 2022 after marrying in 1992. He adopted Trace and Brandi, Tish’s children from a previous relationship. The couple also share Miley, Braison, and Noah Cyrus. Billy Ray also has a son, Christopher, with his ex-wife Kristin Luckey.
In his Instagram letter, Trace expressed concern for his father's health and a desire for reconciliation. He described a longing to emulate his father in his youth, contrasting it with the feeling that the man he admired has changed. Trace claimed that he and his sisters have been worried about their father for some time but have been pushed away.
Trace’s letter also referenced Billy Ray's inauguration performance, which faced technical difficulties.
