Comer Vows to Continue Biden Family Investigation Despite Hunter's Plea Deal

Despite Hunter Biden reaching a plea agreement on tax and gun charges, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has affirmed his commitment to investigating the Biden family's business dealings. Comer stated that the plea deal, which recommends probation for the president's son, does not affect the committee's ongoing probe.

The agreement involves Hunter Biden pleading guilty to two counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax and entering a pretrial diversion agreement for possession of a firearm by a user of controlled substances. Comer criticized the deal as a "slap on the wrist" and suggested a two-tiered justice system is at play, given the mounting evidence of potential corruption, influence peddling, and bribery uncovered by the House Oversight Committee.

U.S. Attorney David C. Weiss clarified that without the plea deal, Hunter Biden could have faced up to 12 years in prison. However, the final sentencing remains with the judge. The investigation, initiated in 2018 following suspicious activity reports related to funds from China and other foreign nations, is still ongoing. The firearm charge stems from Biden allegedly lying on a gun purchase form in 2018, denying drug use despite a 2014 discharge from the Navy for testing positive for cocaine.

Comer's investigation has recently centered on an FBI document alleging a bribery scheme involving then-Vice President Joe Biden and a foreign national, potentially influencing U.S. policy. The document, based on a conversation with a credible source, alleges millions of dollars in payments to both Hunter and Joe Biden.
