In a tragic turn of events, Bella Montoya, a 76-year-old retired nurse from Ecuador, has passed away after a week of intensive care following a startling incident where she was discovered alive in her coffin. Montoya was initially declared dead after experiencing a suspected stroke and cardiopulmonary arrest on June 9th. Her family held a wake, only to be shocked by sounds coming from inside the coffin. Montoya's son, Gilberto Barbera, described the experience as terrifying.
She was immediately rushed back to the hospital, where she remained under constant medical supervision. Sadly, Montoya died on Friday evening, with the cause of death attributed to an ischemic stroke by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Health.
Barbera expressed his frustration with the lack of clear explanation surrounding the initial declaration of death and has stated that the family will pursue answers. Montoya's sister has lodged a formal complaint and is seeking to identify the doctor involved in the initial pronouncement of death. Montoya has now been laid to rest in a public cemetery.
