TV personality and clean beauty entrepreneur Emily Austin voiced her support for the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement in a recent interview. She emphasized the need for US-made products to adhere to stricter health standards, comparable to those implemented in the European Union.
Austin, CEO of People’s Beauty, highlighted her company's commitment to using "clean ingredients" free of common toxins like parabens, sulfates, and phthalates. Her brand aligns with EU cosmetic standards, which prohibit over 1,300 potentially harmful substances.
While proud of meeting these stringent criteria, Austin expressed concern that the US lacks similarly robust regulations. She envisions a future where American-made products boast of meeting superior US health standards, rather than relying on international benchmarks.
Austin criticized the current situation where the US "brags" about meeting European standards, arguing that a nation like the US should lead the way in consumer safety. She drew parallels to the Mediterranean diet, suggesting the US should emulate Europe's approach to food and cosmetic regulations.
She expressed optimism that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a prominent figure in the MAHA movement, will address the issue of preservatives and pesticides in the US food supply. Austin questioned the prevalence of potentially harmful substances in food, emphasizing the importance of preventative care.
Regarding cosmetics, Austin urged the FDA to ban the same toxins prohibited in the EU, particularly parabens, which have been linked to endocrine problems. She highlighted potential health consequences for women, such as reproductive complications and hormone disruptions that could increase cancer risk.
Austin advised consumers to prioritize natural ingredients and avoid plastics in exfoliants and chemical-based oils. She believes nature offers safe and effective alternatives to chemical-laden products.
