Former Oklahoma Undersheriff Sentenced for Assaulting Handcuffed Inmate

A former undersheriff in southeastern Oklahoma received a prison sentence of nearly two years for repeatedly striking a non-resisting, handcuffed individual in 2017. Kendall Morgan, 45, accepted a plea agreement in November 2022, admitting guilt to one count of deprivation of rights under color of law. His sentence also includes 36 months of supervised release following his prison term. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, Morgan has already begun serving his time. The incident involved Morgan striking the restrained individual multiple times despite the lack of resistance. FBI Oklahoma City Special Agent in Charge Edward Gray commented on the case, emphasizing the damage such actions inflict on the reputation of law enforcement. Morgan's attorney, Ben Hilfiger, could not be immediately reached for comment.
