Former "Golden Bachelor" star Gerry Turner recently revealed that a bone marrow cancer diagnosis influenced his decision to divorce Theresa Nist. Turner, who was diagnosed with Waldenström's macroglobulinemia in March, shared the news with People magazine, explaining that the diagnosis significantly impacted his priorities.

While the incurable cancer weighed heavily on his decisions, Turner emphasized his desire for normalcy, which included prioritizing time with his family. This shift in focus contributed to the couple's eventual separation.

Nist, however, offered a different perspective in her own interview with People. She stated that the cancer diagnosis wasn't the primary reason for the divorce, but rather their ongoing struggle to find a home together. Their plans to relocate to South Carolina ultimately fell through due to disagreements on properties, leading to a communication breakdown.

Despite the split, both Turner and Nist expressed continued affection for each other. Turner voiced his support for Nist's future happiness and cherished the memories they made together. He also acknowledged the impact of his diagnosis on their relationship, expressing a wish for a different outcome. Nist echoed these sentiments, confirming her enduring love for Turner.

Turner, the oldest "Bachelor" star at 72, achieved several milestones during his time on the show, including becoming the first engaged and married "Golden Bachelor." He proposed to Nist in Costa Rica, and their wedding was the franchise's first televised live nuptials in a decade.

Looking ahead, Turner, inspired by Tim McGraw's song "Live Like You're Dying," plans to embrace life to the fullest. He expressed his intention to live without regrets, focusing on enjoying every moment.
