A significant incident occurred on an offshore gas platform in the Gulf of Mexico on Friday, resulting in injuries and missing personnel. Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported three or four individuals unaccounted for after a fire erupted on the Nohoch gas transfer platform during his morning press conference.
State-owned oil company Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex), which operates the platform, confirmed that six workers sustained injuries in the early morning blast. The platform's primary function is to compress gas extracted from oil fields and transport it via pipelines. Pemex initiated an evacuation involving seven ships, successfully removing 321 workers from the platform. Images circulating in local media depicted dramatic scenes of flames and smoke billowing from the offshore structure, situated near the Tabasco and Campeche states.
