Actor Josh Brolin playfully suggested retiring from acting following the Academy's failure to nominate "Dune: Part Two" director Denis Villeneuve for an Oscar. Brolin, who starred in both "Dune" installments, had previously vowed to quit if Villeneuve's work on the sequel wasn't acknowledged.
In an Instagram story video, Brolin congratulated the "Dune" team on their nominations for Best Picture, Cinematography, Visual Effects, Production Design, and Sound. However, he jokingly expressed his intention to quit acting due to Villeneuve's omission from the Best Director category.

While acknowledging the deserving nature of the awarded accolades, Brolin reiterated his belief in the sequel's superiority to the original, echoing sentiments he expressed in November when he initially threatened to quit acting if Villeneuve wasn't nominated. He described the film as a mind-altering experience and championed Villeneuve as a masterful filmmaker deserving of recognition.

Villeneuve wasn't the only notable figure overlooked by the Academy. Actresses like Selena Gomez, Nicole Kidman, and Angelina Jolie were also absent from the nominee list.

Despite "Emilia Pérez" garnering 13 nominations, Selena Gomez, who portrayed Jessi Del Monte, didn't receive any individual recognition. Similarly, Angelina Jolie's portrayal of Maria Callas, despite extensive preparation, also failed to secure a nomination.

In contrast, Demi Moore celebrated her first Oscar nomination for "The Substance," expressing gratitude for the honor and acknowledging the film's significance. She joined other nominees Cynthia Erivo, Mikey Madison, Karla Sofia Gascon, and Fernanda Torres in the Best Actress category.
