Lenoir Slams Campbell for Quitting on 49ers: 'Lost All Respect'

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir didn't mince words when discussing teammate De’Vondre Campbell's recent suspension for refusing to enter last week's game against the Los Angeles Rams. Campbell's actions resulted in a three-game suspension from the team, and Lenoir expressed his disappointment and disapproval.

Lenoir recounted his initial optimism when Campbell joined the 49ers, believing he would be a valuable addition to the defense. However, Campbell's refusal to play shattered that perception. "For that to happen, and him to do that, I just lost all respect," Lenoir stated, according to NBC Sports Bay Area.

The incident occurred in the third quarter of the Rams game when starting linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who had recently returned from an Achilles injury, experienced renewed soreness. When Campbell was asked to step in, he declined. Lenoir found this behavior unacceptable, especially during a crucial moment in the game. He emphasized his dedication to playing with maximum effort and viewed Campbell's refusal as detrimental to the team.

"I’d never be a part of something like that. I got too much love for the game, too much pride to even tell the coach I’m not going into the game," Lenoir affirmed. He characterized such behavior as damaging to team unity and morale.

This incident adds to the 49ers' challenging season, which has fallen short of expectations despite high hopes. The team currently holds a 6-8 record and faces the possibility of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
