Over 400 Agricultural Groups Endorse Brooke Rollins for USDA Secretary

A broad coalition of over 400 agricultural organizations, representing farmers, ranchers, growers, and related industries, has written to Senate leaders urging the confirmation of Brooke Rollins as the next U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. They believe Rollins is a powerful advocate who understands the needs of rural America.

The groups, encompassing nearly every facet of American agriculture, food, and rural life, sent the letter to Senators John Boozman and Amy Klobuchar, the chair and ranking member of the Senate Agriculture Committee. This comes a week before Rollins' scheduled confirmation hearing.

The coalition highlighted Rollins' deep agricultural roots, from her childhood on farms in Texas and Minnesota to her degree in agricultural development from Texas A&M University. They emphasized her combined experience in agriculture, law, policy, and business as key qualifications for leading the USDA.

Rollins' career includes working for former Texas Governor Rick Perry and serving as Director of the Domestic Policy Council during the Trump administration. She currently leads the America First Policy Institute, a think tank focused on policies that prioritize American interests. The institute has advocated for restrictions on China's ownership of American farmland and has critiqued the Biden administration's energy policies.

This endorsement comes at a critical juncture for American agriculture, with ongoing debates surrounding the farm bill and agricultural aid. The recent government spending bill averted a shutdown but didn't fully address the financial needs of many farmers. The groups hope that Rollins, with her strong ties to the incoming president, can effectively advocate for the interests of rural America within the White House.

They believe Rollins' leadership is crucial for securing a new farm bill, bolstering the struggling agricultural economy, supporting the entire food and forestry supply chain, and maintaining America's position as a provider of a secure and affordable food supply.

Rollins is anticipated to receive broad support for her nomination, with lawmakers acknowledging her extensive experience and knowledge of the agricultural sector.
