A shocking act of betrayal and violence unfolded in the United Kingdom, where a high school teacher, Clare Bailey, 44, orchestrated a brutal attack on her former lover's wife. Bailey, feigning illness, donned a red wig and a COVID-style face mask to conceal her identity before traveling to the home of Christopher Russell, the man who had ended their affair.
Concealing a carving knife behind a bouquet of flowers, Bailey rang the doorbell. When Russell's 43-year-old wife answered, Bailey unleashed a frenzied assault, repeatedly stabbing and slashing the victim's neck, chest, stomach, and arms. The victim's teenage daughter bravely attempted to intervene but feared for her own safety. The wife suffered severe injuries, requiring extensive surgery and a month-long hospital stay.

Bailey's affair with Russell had ended months prior, but she reportedly struggled to accept the breakup. Her calculated plan involved driving from her home in Dudley to Russell's address in Harrogate, stopping en route to purchase the flowers used in her disguise. Russell's Ring doorbell footage captured Bailey's arrival, clearly showing the red wig and the bouquet.

Witnesses reported seeing Bailey calmly leaving the scene after the attack and driving back home. She was apprehended two days later. Bailey ultimately pleaded guilty to attempted murder and received a 22-year and four-month prison sentence at Leeds Crown Court.

The court proceedings revealed a prior attempt by Bailey to sabotage Russell's marriage. She had sent flowers to his home accompanied by a note designed to falsely implicate his wife in an affair. However, Russell ended the relationship with Bailey and blocked her on social media. The affair had begun with a kiss at Bailey's brother's wedding.

The victim, now reliant on crutches and a wheelchair, expressed the devastating impact of the attack on her life, including physical pain, loss of independence, and psychological trauma. She praised her daughter's courage in trying to intervene. The victim acknowledged the complexities of affairs but emphasized the extreme and unexpected nature of Bailey's reaction. Senior Investigating Officer Jonathan Sygrove described the attack as horrific and highlighted its lasting effects on the victim's sense of security and well-being.
