In a tragic hunting accident, a Virginia man lost his life after a bear, shot from a tree by a fellow hunter, fell and landed on him. The incident occurred on December 9th in Lunenburg County, as reported by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources.
The hunting party had been tracking the bear when it ascended a tree. As the group began to move away from the tree, one hunter fired a shot, causing the bear to fall approximately 10 feet onto 58-year-old Lester C. Harvey of Phenix, Virginia, who was standing below.

A member of the hunting party immediately administered first aid, and Harvey was swiftly transported to two separate hospitals. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries on Friday. Harvey is survived by his wife, five children, and eight grandchildren. He was a self-employed contractor and a dedicated outdoorsman.

This unfortunate event is not an isolated incident. Similar occurrences have been reported in recent years. In 2018, a man in Alaska sustained critical injuries when a bear, shot by his hunting companion, tumbled down a slope, impacting the man and dislodging rocks that also struck him.

The following year, a North Carolina hunter was injured when a bear, shot from a tree by his hunting partner, fell and attacked him. The man and the bear subsequently fell off a cliff. The hunter received medical treatment for his injuries, and the bear was later found dead.
