Williams College Freshman Skier Dies After Accident

Tragedy struck the Williams College community this week with the passing of 19-year-old freshman Alex Kemp. Kemp, a promising student and athlete from New Jersey, died Tuesday following a skiing accident at Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Hancock, Massachusetts.

The accident occurred Monday afternoon on Cutter Trail, a challenging expert-level run. According to the Berkshire County District Attorney's Office, a 911 call reported Kemp going over an embankment and sustaining severe head trauma. Despite wearing a helmet and the swift response of ski patrol and paramedics, Kemp succumbed to his injuries the following day. Authorities have ruled out drugs or alcohol as contributing factors.

Kemp was a highly regarded member of the Williams College cross-country team and was remembered by his coach, Dusty Lopez, as a fearless and driven athlete who found joy in his teammates' successes. Williams College President Maud Mandel described Kemp as someone who embodied the spirit of supporting oneself and others. Beyond athletics, Kemp excelled academically, pursuing studies in political science and economics while aspiring to a doctorate in computer science. He was also known for his volunteer work, including assisting children with disabilities.
