Former Arizona Coyotes forward Alex Galchenyuk has voluntarily entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program after a recent arrest involving charges of hit-and-run, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and making threats. Galchenyuk expressed remorse for his actions in a statement on social media, describing his behavior as "horrific" and "despicable." He apologized to those he offended, including the Coyotes organization, fans, and law enforcement. The 29-year-old admitted his actions jeopardized the opportunity he was given by the Coyotes and acknowledged the disappointment he caused his family. He stated his commitment to seeking help through the program to prevent future incidents.

The arrest stemmed from an incident where Galchenyuk allegedly made threats against a police officer and their family. He also reportedly used a racial slur towards another officer. The Coyotes swiftly released Galchenyuk less than two weeks after signing him to a one-year contract. This was his third stint with the team, having previously played for them in 2018-2019 and 2021-2022. The third overall pick in the 2012 NHL draft by the Montreal Canadiens, Galchenyuk has played for several NHL teams over the past five seasons, including the Penguins, Wild, Senators, Maple Leafs, and Avalanche, in addition to time spent in the AHL.
