A fire engulfed a three-story multifamily residence in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood on Sunday evening, resulting in five injuries and displacing over two dozen residents. The Boston Fire Department reported the incident on social media, stating the fire broke out shortly after 7 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find the rear of the building ablaze, with heavy smoke billowing into the surrounding area. The department launched an aggressive two-pronged attack, battling the flames from both inside and outside the structure to contain the fire and protect adjacent properties.

While most occupants had evacuated the building before the fire department's arrival, three residents and two firefighters sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Deputy Fire Chief Brian Tully emphasized the fortunate timing of the incident, noting the potential for a far worse outcome had the fire occurred during the night. The inferno caused the rear porches to collapse, leaving the building severely damaged with charred walls and melted siding. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The Red Cross is providing assistance to the displaced residents in securing temporary housing.
