He highlighted Trump's high approval ratings among Republicans and a substantial portion of the American public, referencing a recent Pew Research Center poll showing Trump with a 47% approval rating – his highest during his two terms in office. Cohen stressed the importance of countering misinformation with verifiable facts, suggesting platforms like Acosta's show and podcasts are crucial for disseminating accurate information.
While acknowledging the public's right to be angry, Cohen emphasized the need to present factual counterarguments. He pointed out that Trump won the 2024 election, and therefore, the focus should be on informing the public rather than engaging in emotional attacks. Cohen's perspective echoes recent warnings from some Democratic strategists who caution against overreacting to every Trump statement, suggesting it dilutes the impact of genuine concerns about potential overreach.
Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME) voiced similar concerns, stating that constant outrage diminishes the urgency of serious issues. He argued that not every action by Trump rises to the level of a constitutional crisis, and Democrats should be more strategic in their responses.
