Disney Removes Transgender Storyline from Upcoming Pixar Series 'Win or Lose'

Disney has confirmed the removal of dialogue related to a character's gender identity from its forthcoming animated Pixar series, "Win or Lose," according to a statement provided to Fox News Digital on Tuesday. The series, which centers around a middle school co-ed softball team called the Pickles in the lead-up to their championship game, was initially reported to include a transgender storyline by The Hollywood Reporter.

Disney explained that the decision, made several months prior, was in response to feedback from parents who expressed a preference for discussing such topics with their children personally. A spokesperson stated, "For animated content aimed at younger viewers, we acknowledge that many parents prefer to handle certain subjects with their children in their own way and time."

"Win or Lose" is set to premiere on Disney+ in February 2025, marking Pixar's first venture into original series production.

This decision comes amidst criticism directed at Disney regarding the inclusion of LGBTQ+ themes in content targeting younger audiences. Past instances, such as the same-sex kiss in "Lightyear" (2022) and the introduction of a non-binary character in "Elemental" (2023), have drawn both attention and backlash. Both films also underperformed at the box office, with "Lightyear" opening to $51 million and "Elemental" to $29.5 million. Disney has, however, continued to incorporate LGBTQ+ storylines in content aimed at more mature viewers, including projects like "Agatha All Along" and "Fire Island."
