Senators Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson are questioning the FBI's handling of their 2020 investigation into Hunter Biden's finances, particularly his involvement with Burisma Holdings. The senators allege that the FBI, while simultaneously investigating similar allegations, briefed them that their probe was promoting Russian disinformation. This briefing, according to the senators, was an attempt to discredit their oversight and potentially silence criticism of the Biden family before the 2020 election.
Grassley and Johnson claim that in August 2020, FBI officials sought to downplay damaging information about Hunter Biden by labeling it "disinformation" to hinder investigations into potential criminal activity. Whistleblowers have also claimed that local FBI leadership discouraged examination of Hunter Biden's laptop shortly after the FBI acquired it. This contradicts the fact that the FBI knew by December 2019 that the laptop's contents were authentic and contained credible evidence, as their own investigation into Hunter Biden was already underway.
Senator Johnson expressed concern over the conflicting messages from the FBI, highlighting a broader pattern of corruption and unequal application of justice within federal law enforcement. He questioned the potential orchestration and persistence of this partisan corruption across administrations.
The senators' 2020 report revealed that Obama administration officials were aware of the potential issues surrounding Hunter Biden's position at Burisma and its impact on U.S.-Ukraine relations. The report also detailed questionable financial transactions between Hunter Biden, his family and associates, and individuals linked to Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, and China. Furthermore, it uncovered records of Hunter Biden sending funds to individuals potentially involved in human trafficking, the adult entertainment industry, or prostitution.
These findings have been corroborated by IRS whistleblowers involved in the Hunter Biden investigation. The House Judiciary, Oversight, and Ways and Means committees are also investigating allegations of political influence in the Hunter Biden case and have requested transcribed interviews from various officials across multiple agencies. The House Oversight Committee's separate investigation into the Biden family's business dealings has uncovered over 20 companies established by the family and associates, receiving over $10 million from foreign nationals during Joe Biden's vice presidency, raising concerns about potential influence peddling.
Despite these developments, the White House maintains that President Biden was never involved in his son's business dealings. Hunter Biden's recent plea deal on tax and firearm charges will likely allow him to avoid prison time.
