The iconic building that once housed the immersive "Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser" experience at Walt Disney World is getting a new purpose. Disney has confirmed to Orlando media outlets that the structure will be repurposed as office space for its Imagineering department. This transition has reportedly been planned since October.
Imagineering, the creative force behind Disney's theme parks, resorts, attractions, and cruise ships worldwide, will occupy the former hotel. The department also plays a key role in the creative development of Disney games, merchandise, and publishing ventures.

The "Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser" offered a unique two-night immersive experience, similar to a cruise, where guests became active participants in an unfolding storyline. Launched in March 2022 after several delays, the 100-room hotel garnered praise for its immersive storytelling but faced criticism for its high price tag, with cabins starting at nearly $5,000 for two people and reaching $6,000 for four.

Disney announced the closure of the Galactic Starcruiser in May 2023, with its final voyage concluding in September of the same year. While fans held onto hopes of the building's continued use as an attraction, Disney remained tight-lipped about its future plans. A construction permit filed in January 2024 hinted at a change, which has now been confirmed as the transformation into Imagineering offices.

The timeline for the renovation and the Imagineers' move into the building remains undisclosed.
