Terry England, a seasoned Republican politician with a long history in the Georgia House of Representatives, is returning to the state capitol. House Speaker Jon Burns recently announced England's appointment as his new chief of staff, replacing the outgoing Spiro Amburn, who is departing for a position in the private sector.

England, representing Auburn, served 18 years in the House, including a significant 12-year tenure as the chamber's principal budget architect. His leadership of the Appropriations Committee solidified his influence, granting him considerable control over billions of dollars in state spending. England assumed this key role in 2010 following the appointment of his close associate, David Ralston, as House Speaker. Burns, in turn, succeeded Ralston following the latter's passing last year.
Speaker Burns praised England's appointment, emphasizing his trusted leadership and the respect he commands from both House members and staff. He expressed confidence in England's ability to provide invaluable counsel in his new capacity. Amburn, the departing chief of staff, concludes a 14-year tenure, primarily serving under Ralston. England is set to officially begin his duties on August 1st, while Amburn's retirement takes effect on September 1st.
