Former Tennessee Lawmaker Roy Herron Dies After Jet Ski Accident

Former Tennessee state representative, senator, and Democratic Party chairman Roy B. Herron has passed away at the age of 69 following injuries sustained in a jet ski accident earlier this month. Herron's extensive career in public service spanned decades, including a gubernatorial bid in 2010.

The accident occurred on Kentucky Lake on July 1st, according to FOX 17. Since then, tributes have poured in from family, friends, and former colleagues.

Representative Steve Cohen (D-TN) expressed his sadness on Twitter, remembering Herron as a bright, diligent, and honest politician with a promising future, suggesting the accident may have been caused by negligence. Tennessee Senate Minority Leader Raumesh Akbari praised Herron's dedication and joyful advocacy for public schools, affordable healthcare, and working families.

Tennessee House Republican Caucus Chairman Jeremy Faison also shared his condolences, describing Herron as a likeable figure and a true servant to Tennessee. He recalled numerous visits from Herron to his office, often turning into discussions about life beyond politics. Memphis mayoral candidate Van Turner offered sympathies, referring to Herron as a statesman and public servant who will be deeply missed.
