A Georgia police department is facing community backlash and accusations of racism after posting photos of a citizen handgun class where participants used targets depicting a Black man. The Villa Rica Police Department originally shared the images on Facebook, highlighting the class and encouraging viewers to see more photos. However, the images quickly drew criticism from community members who found the choice of targets offensive and racially insensitive.

The department has since removed the photos and issued an apology on Facebook, stating that the targets were part of a package that included images of people from various ethnic groups and that they never intended to cause offense. They emphasized their commitment to being equitable to all people regardless of their background. However, the apology has been met with further criticism, with some, including the Carroll County NAACP, deeming it insincere and insensitive. The NAACP also pointed out that similar target choices have been deemed inappropriate by other police departments across the country. They have requested a meeting with city officials to discuss the incident.
