Residents of specific zones impacted by the Palisades Fire near Malibu have been granted permission to return home, starting Tuesday afternoon. These zones, identified as C-111A, C-112B, and U-030B, require residents to pass through a Malibu checkpoint managed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. This move coincides with increased security measures being implemented by the Sheriff's Department to address looting incidents within the affected areas.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department is also bolstering its operations in the Altadena Eaton Fire burn area to aid in recovery and maintain public safety. The focus has shifted from containment efforts to community support, prioritizing the safe return of residents to their homes and neighborhoods.
To address potential criminal activity, a specialized "Looter Suppression Team" has been established. This unit comprises personnel from various LASD divisions with expertise in combating looting and similar crimes that often occur during emergencies. The team will be supported by increased patrol operations. Aerial patrols will also be conducted by the agency's AERO Bureau to enhance surveillance and response capabilities.
A curfew remains in place but is now limited to areas under active evacuation orders. Areas under evacuation warnings are no longer subject to the curfew. The LASD is committed to assisting residents during this challenging time and aims to ensure a seamless transition back to normalcy. The department expresses gratitude to Altadena residents for their resilience and cooperation.
Residents returning home can stage at the Malibu Pier, located at 23000 Pacific Coast Highway.
