Goldberg Defends Biden's Pardon of Hunter, Criticizes Democratic Dissenters

Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of "The View," strongly defended President Biden's decision to pardon his son, Hunter, on Tuesday, directing her criticism towards Democrats who expressed disapproval. Goldberg argued that the president's power to pardon is absolute and requires no explanation. She compared the situation to a double standard, suggesting that if Republicans can exercise certain privileges, so can Democrats. Goldberg questioned why some on the left were expressing outrage, emphasizing the president's right to pardon whomever he chooses.

She further contended that Democrats consistently advocate for various social justice causes, often facing accusations of pursuing a "woke agenda." Goldberg asserted that the party should stand by its principles and understand the president's rationale for the pardon. She expressed concern over internal divisions within the Democratic party and urged members to unite instead of criticizing each other. Co-host Sunny Hostin echoed Goldberg's sentiments, expressing frustration with the "internal firing squad" and criticizing the focus on President Biden's alleged dishonesty, comparing it to the actions of other political figures.

Despite Goldberg and Hostin's defense, several Democrats have openly opposed the pardon. Rep. Greg Stanton (D-Ariz.) stated his respect for the president but disagreed with the decision, emphasizing that Hunter Biden had committed felonies and been convicted. Colorado Governor Jared Polis also criticized the move, expressing disappointment that Biden prioritized family over country and warning of the potential for future abuse of the pardon power. Goldberg's defense of the president aligns with her previous statements where she asserted Biden's right to act as he sees fit.
