Jon Gosselin and two of his children, Collin and Hannah, recently opened up about their experiences on the reality show "Jon and Kate Plus 8" in an interview with Vice's "Dark Side of the 2000s." The family's rise to fame began after the birth of twins and sextuplets, leading to documentaries and ultimately, a reality TV series. However, the show's success coincided with the couple's highly publicized separation and divorce.

Collin shared his account of being sent to Fairmount Behavioral Health System, a psychiatric hospital, at the age of 12. While Kate, his mother, previously stated on "Kate Plus 8" that she couldn't meet his needs, Collin alleges she sent him away to silence him about alleged abuse at home. He described the institution as a "dark place" where he felt isolated and unsupported. Kate has previously denied these allegations in a 2016 "Good Morning America" interview.

Jon stated he was unaware of Collin's institutionalization until he noticed his absence during a family meal. Kate, who had full custody, claimed a court order prevented her from disclosing Collin’s location. Collin eventually contacted his father, leading to a custody battle and Jon gaining custody of both Collin and Hannah. Jon claims he spent a significant amount of money to secure Collin’s release, using testimonies and psychological evaluations.

Hannah remains the only sibling in contact with Collin, revealing the others have chosen not to maintain a relationship with him. Collin hasn't communicated with his other siblings since 2016, attributing the estrangement to his mother's narrative of events. Jon also confirmed he is estranged from his other children, without explanation. Both Collin and Hannah reflected on being thrust into the spotlight at a young age, acknowledging the unforeseen consequences of their parents' decision to participate in the reality show.
