In a disturbing case, a 22-year-old Oxford, Maine resident, Travis Kimball, has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for the sexual abuse of two young children. Kimball's crimes, which he documented with his cellphone, involved victims aged 3 and 7. The incidents occurred in April and June of 2022, and Kimball also attempted to distribute the illicit images. Prosecutors highlighted the predatory nature of Kimball's actions, noting that his employment, including a position at a daycare, placed him in frequent contact with children. One of the victims was abused at the daycare where Kimball worked. U.S. Attorney Darcie N. McElwee emphasized the long-lasting impact of Kimball's crimes on the young victims and their families, stating that they will grapple with the trauma long after Kimball's release from prison. Kimball's defense attorney, Heather Gonzales, acknowledged the gravity of his actions, describing them as "unconscionable" in court documents. Gonzales also pointed to Kimball's own history of childhood victimization and his otherwise positive life record. Judge Jon Levy handed down the sentence, which also includes 25 years of probation following Kimball's prison term.
