Man Detained Near Kenneth Fire With Alleged Blowtorch; ICE Identifies Him as Mexican National

A tense situation unfolded near the Kenneth Fire as a man was apprehended by local residents, allegedly carrying a blowtorch. Video footage from FOX 11 Los Angeles shows the man holding what appears to be a torch head and a yellow fuel tank before being tackled by several individuals. Los Angeles police subsequently took him into custody.

Sources within Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have informed Fox News that the man, identified as Juan Manuel Sierra-Leyva, is a Mexican national and is currently being held due to a probation violation. As of now, no arson charges have been filed. ICE intends to issue a detainer request, seeking notification upon his release for potential transfer into their custody and subsequent deportation. However, due to California's status as a "sanctuary state," it is unlikely the request will be honored.

A law enforcement source in Los Angeles indicated to Fox News Digital that intentionally set wildfires are not uncommon, particularly during periods of strong winds, which can embolden arsonists. However, there is currently no confirmed link between arson and the recent fires.

The issue of illegal immigration continues to be a significant political concern, and the incoming Trump administration is reportedly planning a large-scale deportation operation. While some states have expressed willingness to cooperate, others, including California, have indicated resistance. California not only has a sanctuary state law but also sees some local jurisdictions taking even stronger measures to prevent collaboration with ICE. For instance, New York City Mayor Eric Adams has expressed a desire to work with the incoming administration on deporting violent criminals. However, California presents a unique challenge for the Trump administration due to its robust sanctuary policies.
