Marlins' Bats Explode in Dominant Win Over Red Sox

The Miami Marlins unleashed an offensive barrage on Tuesday night, routing the Boston Red Sox 10-1 at Fenway Park. The Marlins tied their season-high with an impressive 19 hits, fueled by Bryan De La Cruz's two-run homer and Jean Segura's solo shot.

Jazz Chisholm, returning after a lengthy absence due to a turf toe injury, made an immediate impact with three RBIs. Garrett Cooper chipped in with two RBIs, while Jorge Soler added an RBI double and Joey Wendle collected four hits. The offensive explosion provided ample support for reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcántara (3-6), who delivered a strong seven-inning performance, allowing just one run and six hits.

Even with a rare strikeout, Luis Arraez, MLB's batting average leader, extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single and an RBI double, maintaining his remarkable .399 average. Alcántara, who had struggled in recent starts, expressed his relief with the solid outing, emphasizing the importance of his changeup in keeping the Red Sox bats quiet.

Boston's lone run came courtesy of Alex Verdugo's RBI double in the first inning. Red Sox starter Garrett Whitlock (4-3) struggled, surrendering six runs and 11 hits in just 4 2/3 innings, taking his first loss in six starts. Red Sox manager Alex Cora acknowledged the team's .500 record, stating, "We're not great, we're not bad. We are where we're at."

This marked the fourth time this season the Marlins have scored 10 or more runs and the fifth time Boston has given up double-digit runs. The Red Sox also allowed 19 or more hits for the first time since October 2022. Tanner Houck, who suffered a facial fracture after being hit by a line drive earlier this month, underwent surgery and is expected to return later this season.

The Marlins will send Braxton Garrett (3-2, 3.64 ERA) to the mound for Wednesday's game, his first career start against Boston. The Red Sox have yet to announce their starter.
