Center Naz Reid has agreed to a three-year, $42 million contract extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves, solidifying his role with the team. The deal, finalized on Sunday and confirmed by Reid's agents at Excel Sports Management on Monday, includes a player option after the second season.

Reid's breakout performance on both offense and defense this past season made him a sought-after free agent. Despite significant investments in centers Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns, the Timberwolves recognized Reid's potential and secured him as a key reserve player.
Head coach Chris Finch praised Reid's adaptability and impact, highlighting his ability to thrive in various roles, whether starting or coming off the bench. Finch noted Reid's strong early-season performance and his seamless transition back into a bench role upon Towns' return from injury.

Since going undrafted from LSU in 2019, the 6-foot-9 Reid has become a fan favorite, known for his continuous improvement, composed attitude, and powerful dunks. He achieved career highs in the 2022-23 season, averaging 11.5 points and shooting 53.7% from the field in 68 games.
Reid's importance became even more apparent during Towns' 52-game absence due to a calf strain. In games where Reid played over 30 minutes, he averaged an impressive 27 points and 11 rebounds. His late-season absence due to a broken wrist was a significant blow to the Timberwolves in their playoff series loss against the eventual NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets.

Leveraging their Bird Rights, the Timberwolves were able to offer Reid a more lucrative contract than other teams. While financial considerations were a factor, Reid emphasized his desire for a situation that maximized his development and playing time. He expressed his wish to be in an environment where he could fully utilize his skills and contribute to the team's success.
