Topping:
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons melted (but not hot) butter
- 3 tablespoons whole milk
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Combine all filling ingredients in a large bowl and set aside.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt for the topping.
- Add the melted butter to the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly with a fork or spoon until a dough-like consistency begins to form.
- Gradually add two tablespoons of milk to the dough, mixing with a fork and your hands until it holds together. The dough may be slightly crumbly, which is perfectly fine. If it seems too dry, add the remaining tablespoon of milk.
- Pour the fruit filling into a 1 ½ quart baking dish and spread evenly.
- Divide the topping dough into six equal portions. Shape each portion into a thin patty (about ½-inch thick) and place it on top of the filling. Don't worry if the patties are a little crumbly.
- Sprinkle any remaining dough crumbles over the filling.
- Bake for 50 minutes.
- Let the cobbler cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.
