Faced with persistent break-ins, Alexx Bacon, owner of Aaberg’s Tools & Equipment Rental in Tacoma, Washington, has implemented a shocking new security measure: an electric fence. He discussed the drastic step on "Fox & Friends," explaining that a conventional fence proved inadequate against repeated intrusions.
Bacon detailed the constant nighttime break-ins, the extensive damage to his original fence, and the significant financial losses, both in repair costs and stolen goods, ranging from small tools to employee vehicles. He described carrying fencing material in his car for DIY repairs due to the frequency of the incidents. The situation, he stated, was simply "out of control."
The new electric fence, which Bacon describes as a "long-term investment" costing upwards of $15,000 annually, carries a 7,000-volt charge. He emphasized that while painful, it's non-lethal, running on batteries and delivering DC voltage without dangerous amperage.
Tacoma, like many U.S. cities, has grappled with a crime surge. While city data from May indicates decreases in homicides, violent crime, and property crime this year, potentially linked to increased police staffing, the head of the local police union argues that these statistics don't reflect the reality on the ground. He claims the city is playing a "shell game" by comparing current figures to record-high numbers from the previous two years.
Bacon echoes this sentiment, expressing frustration with what he perceives as limitations on police action due to decriminalization. He praises the local police force but feels they are hampered in their ability to address the ongoing crime issues. Given the success of his electric fence, Bacon is advocating for the Tacoma City Council to permit other businesses to install similar security measures, currently restricted to industrial zones.
