Tennessee Deputy Fatally Shoots Man Who Wounded Officer After Traffic Stop

Following a traffic stop late Sunday, a Tennessee deputy fatally shot a man who opened fire on and injured a police officer. According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), a Selmer Police Department officer initiated the stop for speeding. A passenger in the vehicle then fled on foot. Selmer police and McNairy County Sheriff's deputies later located the individual, identified as Adam L. Timberlake of Adamsville, concealed within a residential area. Reports indicate Timberlake then shot at the Selmer officer, wounding him. A deputy subsequently returned fire, striking Timberlake.

Timberlake was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital. The injured officer also received hospital treatment, though the nature and extent of his injuries remain undisclosed. The TBI is conducting an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
