Boston Red Sox infielder Trevor Story is optimistic about rejoining the team next month as their designated hitter, following January surgery on his right elbow. Currently working out with the team in Boston after completing most of his rehab in Fort Myers, Florida, Story expressed his excitement about a potential July return.

Speaking to reporters before Monday's game against his former team, the Colorado Rockies, Story confirmed July as a realistic target. "Being able to contribute with my bat is something I feel confident in," he stated, emphasizing his desire to make an impact. He also anticipates a return to his regular shortstop position by August.

Story acknowledged that his progression is fluid and depends on how he feels, but he remains focused on playing shortstop again in August. This is a welcome development for the Red Sox, who have struggled to find stability at shortstop in Story's absence since Xander Bogaerts' departure to San Diego. Kiké Hernández, filling in at shortstop, committed his major league-leading 14th error in Monday night's game against the Rockies.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora revealed that Story has been throwing from 120 feet and is scheduled to participate in batting practice with the team for most of the week before likely returning to Florida for further training.
