Trump Advocates for US Mediation in Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Former President Donald Trump has called for the United States to mediate peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, citing Russia's perceived weakening following the Wagner Group's recent actions. In an interview with Reuters, Trump expressed his desire to see an end to the ongoing conflict and suggested that territorial concessions from Ukraine might be necessary for a resolution.

Trump emphasized the importance of having a skilled negotiator and stated that if he were president, everything would be open to discussion. He acknowledged the Ukrainians' valiant defense of their territory and suggested they deserve to retain a significant portion of their gains. He believes Russia would likely agree to such terms with the right mediator.

Trump's stance contrasts with that of President Biden and NATO allies, who have firmly supported Ukraine and demanded Russia's withdrawal from occupied territories. While Trump agreed with Biden's assessment of Putin appearing weaker after the Wagner mutiny, he cautioned against regime change in Russia, highlighting the potential for unforeseen consequences.

Beyond the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Trump also addressed China's plans for a new spy base in Cuba. He proposed a firm approach, stating that his administration would give China 48 hours to abandon the project or face a 100% tariff on all goods sold to the United States. He expressed confidence in his ability to deter such actions, referencing his past relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Regarding Taiwan, Trump declined to specify whether he would offer military support in the event of a Chinese invasion, citing strategic negotiating considerations. He asserted that no threat existed during his presidency and that such a scenario would not arise under his leadership.
