Venus Williams Awarded Wild Card for 24th Wimbledon Appearance

At 43 years old, tennis icon Venus Williams is set to grace the courts of Wimbledon for a remarkable 24th time, having received a wild-card entry for the singles draw. A five-time Wimbledon champion, Williams last reached the finals in 2017, two decades after her initial appearance at the prestigious All England Club.

Williams' recent performance at the Birmingham Classic showcased her enduring competitive spirit. Currently ranked 697th, she triumphed over the 48th-ranked Camila Giorgi in a thrilling three-set match, marking her first victory against a top-50 player in nearly four years. This win propelled her to a match against Jelena Ostapenko in this Wimbledon warm-up event.

While Venus prepares for Wimbledon, her sister, seven-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams, remains a prominent figure in the tennis world, despite announcing her retirement following her first-round loss at last year's tournament.

Joining Venus in the women's draw via wild-card entries are Ukrainian player Elina Svitolina and British players Heather Watson and Katie Boulter. On the men's side, David Goffin, a Belgian who reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals in both 2019 and 2022, has also been granted a wild card.
