Just days before her wedding to NBA player Frank Kaminsky, sportscaster Ashley Brewer received the disheartening news of her layoff from ESPN. The former "SportsCenter" anchor shared her shock and disbelief in a TikTok video, mouthing the words "You're joking" over a caption detailing the unfortunate timing of the job loss.

Despite the setback, Brewer maintained a positive attitude in her interactions with followers. In response to a suggestion that she create her own content, she hinted that the idea had been brewing and that the layoff might be the catalyst to pursue it. When asked about the reason behind her dismissal, Brewer simply replied with "$$$," suggesting budgetary constraints were at play.

Brewer's career began as a college football sideline reporter in Arizona, followed by a stint as a weekend sports anchor in Tucson. She later moved to Los Angeles, working at KABC-TV before joining ESPN in 2020. At ESPN, she hosted the late edition of "SportsCenter" in Los Angeles and briefly contributed to "SportsNation."
Brewer's fiancé, Frank Kaminsky, was the 9th overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets. He played for both the Atlanta Hawks and Houston Rockets last season. The couple got engaged in September 2022.

Brewer is among nearly two dozen ESPN employees who were laid off recently. The network cited the need for cost savings in public-facing commentator salaries as the reason for the job cuts. ESPN stated that these difficult decisions, based primarily on financial considerations rather than individual performance, were necessary to meet financial goals and ensure future growth.
