French actress and animal rights activist Brigitte Bardot is thankfully on the mend after experiencing breathing difficulties during an intense heatwave in Saint-Tropez. Emergency services were dispatched to her home after the 88-year-old reportedly struggled to breathe. Her husband, Bernard d’Ormale, clarified that while ambulances initially went to the wrong location, the situation was handled efficiently by first responders who administered oxygen.
D’Ormale attributed the incident to the extreme heat, with temperatures soaring above 104° Fahrenheit (40° Celsius), stating that individuals of Bardot’s age are particularly vulnerable to such conditions. He emphasized the importance of her avoiding unnecessary exertion.
Just days prior, Bardot expressed her sadness over the passing of fellow 1960s icon, Jane Birkin, in a heartfelt tribute shared on Twitter. She lauded Birkin’s beauty, spontaneity, and childlike voice, lamenting the loss of the actress and singer.
Bardot, who achieved global recognition with her role in the 1956 film “And God Created Woman,” retired from acting in 1973 after a prolific career spanning 48 films and numerous musical recordings. Since then, she has devoted her life to animal rights activism, becoming a strong advocate for animal welfare, albeit sometimes sparking controversy with her outspoken views.
A new photo book titled “Being Bardot” showcases rare and unseen photographs from the archives of Douglas Kirkland and Terry O’Neill, capturing the later years of her career in the entertainment industry.
