In a heartbreaking incident of animal neglect, a Florida woman has been taken into custody following the death of her dog. The five-year-old pit bull mix, named Los, was discovered deceased on July 11th at a residence on Edison Avenue in Fort Myers. Lee County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a call reporting a dog tied up outside in the intense summer heat. Upon arrival, they found the animal already dead.
The subsequent investigation, conducted by the Animal Cruelty Task Force, revealed a grim picture of neglect. Los had been tied to a pole in the backyard for an extended period without access to food, water, or any form of shade. The dog's owner, 34-year-old Jade Green, was subsequently arrested.
Sheriff Carmine Marceno expressed his outrage, stating, "It sickens me that another defenseless animal was killed due to the incompetence of its owner. We will always protect those that cannot protect themselves." Deputies reported that the dog's surface temperature reached a staggering 104°F, with the internal temperature too high to measure. The lack of even minimal shade further exacerbated the dog's suffering, leading to what authorities described as an "agonizing death."
Lee County Domestic Animal Services has taken custody of Los's remains to conduct a necropsy. Green is facing charges of aggravated animal cruelty. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership, especially during periods of extreme heat.
