A man in suburban Chicago is facing felony charges after accidentally shooting himself in the leg while dreaming about a home intruder. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 62-year-old man's Lake Barrington home on April 10, finding him with a gunshot wound and significant blood loss. Deputies applied a tourniquet before he was transported to the hospital.
The man explained to investigators that he was dreaming about someone breaking into his house. In the dream, he grabbed his .357 Magnum revolver and fired at the perceived intruder, only to shoot himself and wake up. Authorities confirmed that no actual break-in attempt occurred.
However, during their investigation, they discovered the man's firearm owner's identification card (FOID) had been revoked. This led to charges of possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card and reckless discharge of a firearm, both felonies. A warrant was issued on June 9, and he was arrested on Monday. He has since been released on bond and awaits a court hearing scheduled for June 29. Attempts to reach the man for comment were unsuccessful.
