Just weeks after declining a 2024 presidential bid, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu has suggested he might forgo an unprecedented fifth term as governor. In a recent interview with Boston radio station WEEI, Sununu stated he's "not leaning towards" another run, though he hasn't completely ruled it out. He plans to discuss the decision with his family. While acknowledging he could likely win again, Sununu expressed a sense that it's time for someone else to lead, mentioning financial considerations and the desire for a "real job." This isn't the first time Sununu has alluded to leaving office; he made similar remarks earlier this year. He also stated he'd announce his decision sometime after the Fourth of July. Democrats see a potential opportunity if Sununu steps down, with Executive Councilor Cinde Warmington already campaigning and Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig expected to announce her candidacy soon. On the Republican side, former Senator Kelly Ayotte, former state Senate President Chuck Morse, and Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut are potential contenders if Sununu doesn't run. Sununu's future has been a subject of speculation before, notably during the 2022 election cycle when he considered a Senate run against incumbent Democrat Maggie Hassan before ultimately deciding against it.
