Pence Advocates for 15-Week National Abortion Ban, Reflecting on Roe v. Wade Anniversary

Former Vice President Mike Pence commemorated the first anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade on Fox News Sunday, emphasizing his commitment to enacting a national 15-week abortion ban if elected president. He expressed pride in the states that have implemented protections for the unborn following the Supreme Court's decision, which returned abortion regulation to individual states.

Despite public opinion polls indicating widespread opposition to a complete national abortion ban, Pence urged all 2024 Republican presidential candidates to endorse a 15-week minimum standard for abortion restrictions. He argued that such a standard would align U.S. law with many European nations and contrasted current U.S. abortion laws with those of countries like North Korea, China, and Iran.

Pence asserted that a majority of Americans would support legislation banning abortions after 15 weeks, the point at which he claims unborn children can feel pain. He reiterated his unwavering commitment to restoring the sanctity of life to the core of American law.

Pence's comments coincide with remarks from other political figures on the Roe v. Wade anniversary. Former President Donald Trump, speaking at the Faith & Freedom Coalition Gala, declared himself the "most pro-life president" in U.S. history, citing his actions to protect the unborn. Conversely, Vice President Kamala Harris released a video lamenting the Supreme Court's decision, framing it as a setback for women's rights and emphasizing her support for the right to choose.
