Law enforcement agencies are offering a combined $60,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Initially, the NYPD offered $10,000. The FBI subsequently added $50,000 to the reward, bringing the total to $60,000. The FBI's wanted poster states they are assisting the NYPD in the investigation of the homicide that occurred on December 4, 2024, at approximately 6:40 a.m. outside 1335 Avenue of the Americas in Midtown Manhattan. They are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the suspect.

UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson and the alleged killer

Thompson, who was in New York for UnitedHealth's annual investor conference, was shot in what police describe as a targeted, premeditated attack. He had been staying at a hotel across the street from the Hilton where the conference was being held. The suspect is believed to have traveled from Atlanta to New York prior to the shooting.

While a motive remains officially undisclosed, investigators discovered bullet casings at the scene inscribed with the words "deny," "depose," and "defend." This has fueled speculation about a possible connection to a denied insurance claim, possibly referencing the book "Delay, Deny, Defend: Why Insurance Companies Don't Pay Claims and What You Can Do About It." Investigators are pursuing this angle among other possibilities.
