Hall of Famer Rod Woodson will not be returning as head coach of the Vegas Vipers following their 2-8 inaugural season in the XFL. The team and Woodson mutually agreed to part ways, the league announced on Sunday, less than a month after the conclusion of the XFL championship game. XFL President Russ Brandon expressed gratitude for Woodson's dedication and the invaluable experience he brought to the team. He highlighted the positive impact Woodson had on the players, coaching staff, and the organization as a whole.

Woodson, whose illustrious NFL career spanned 17 years, primarily with the Pittsburgh Steelers, also expressed his appreciation for the opportunity and wished the league continued success. The 58-year-old former cornerback earned numerous accolades during his playing days, including Defensive Player of the Year and a Super Bowl title with the Baltimore Ravens. The Vipers struggled throughout their first season, starting 0-4 before securing victories in weeks 5 and 7. They finished last in their division, ahead of only the Orlando Guardians.
