Trump's appearance is slated for 10:30 a.m. local time at the Phoenix Convention Center, culminating the four-day AmericaFest event. This address comes on the heels of a recent government shutdown averted by a last-minute stopgap spending bill passed by Congress and signed by President Biden. The initial, extensive version of the bill faced criticism from conservatives and Trump supporters, including Elon Musk, for provisions like increased cost of living adjustments for lawmakers. Trump advocated for suspending the debt ceiling during negotiations, a move not included in the final bill.
The final legislation did incorporate economic relief for farmers and disaster aid related to recent storms. While Trump hasn't commented publicly on the bill's passage, sources suggest he is dissatisfied. Other notable figures, including Senator Ted Cruz, incoming Trump administration "border czar" Tom Homan, comedian Rob Schneider, and Charlie Kirk, will also speak at AmericaFest. The event, which began on December 19th, aims to invigorate conservative students and voters.
