Democrat Joins Bipartisan DOGE Caucus to Streamline Government, Reduce Spending

In a bipartisan move, Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) joined the House of Representatives' DOGE Caucus, focusing on government efficiency and spending reduction. Moskowitz is the first Democrat to join the caucus, originally founded by Reps. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) and Aaron Bean (R-Fla.) following President-elect Trump's announcement of a DOGE advisory panel led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.

Moskowitz emphasized his belief that improving government processes and cutting wasteful spending should transcend partisan lines. He specifically targeted the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), suggesting it has become overly large and advocating for the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to become independent agencies reporting directly to the White House. Moskowitz argued that having 22 agencies within DHS is impractical and expressed his commitment to working with colleagues on this issue.

Moskowitz's position is particularly noteworthy given his experience as Florida's former director of Emergency Management under Gov. Ron DeSantis. He has also collaborated with Rep. Garret Graves (R-La.) on separating FEMA from DHS and serves on the House task force investigating assassination attempts against Trump.

Rep. Aaron Bean co-founded the DOGE Caucus.

The DOGE Caucus (Delivering Outstanding Government Efficiency) aligns with broader efforts to enhance government efficiency. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) recently revealed plans for a special subcommittee on government efficiency in the next Congress, to be led by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).
