Star point guard Kyrie Irving has solidified his future in Dallas by re-signing with the Mavericks. The 31-year-old inked a three-year agreement worth $126 million, which includes a player option for the final season, as reported by The Athletic.

Irving initially joined the Mavericks in February through a trade with the Brooklyn Nets, following a period of controversy that included an eight-game suspension for sharing an antisemitic film on social media. This trade marked the conclusion of a disappointing chapter for the Nets, who had signed both Irving and Kevin Durant in 2019 with high hopes.

Despite Dallas's aspirations for a deep playoff run following Irving's arrival, the team struggled, finishing with an 8-12 record during his time on the court and missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
Irving's career trajectory has been turbulent in recent years. Injuries and off-court issues have limited his playing time, preventing him from reaching the 60-game mark in each of the past four seasons. In his 20 games with the Mavericks, he averaged a strong 27 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds.

While eligible for a five-year, $272 million maximum contract, Irving ultimately opted for the three-year deal. The eight-time All-Star is now poised to begin his 13th NBA season.
