Numerous law enforcement organizations and unions across the U.S. have voiced their strong support for South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem as the next Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary. They believe she is the ideal candidate to address the ongoing immigration challenges and restore order following the Biden administration.
Several groups have written endorsement letters, including one from International Union of Police Associations Local 6020, Broward Deputy Sheriffs Association President Donald Prichard to Sen. Rand Paul. Prichard urged swift confirmation of Noem to tackle the border security crisis. Former President Trump nominated Noem for the position after his November election victory.
The DHS has a wide range of responsibilities, overseeing agencies like Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Secret Service, and FEMA.

Among the organizations endorsing Noem are the National Fraternal Order of Police, the National Association of Police Organizations, the International Union of Police Associations, and the National Border Patrol Council.
The Police Officers Association of Michigan, the state's largest law enforcement group, also endorsed Noem, citing difficulties faced by law enforcement under the Biden administration due to increased illegal immigration and crime.
The National Border Patrol Council, representing approximately 18,000 agents, urged the Senate to promptly consider Noem's confirmation, highlighting her effectiveness and prior support of Texas' Operation Lone Star.

Noem has consistently deployed South Dakota National Guard troops to the southern border to assist with Operation Lone Star.

The Fraternal Order of Police also expressed support for Noem, emphasizing the importance of a smooth transition within the DHS.
Trump, who campaigned on addressing the border crisis and drug epidemic, announced Noem's nomination shortly after his election win, praising her strong stance on border security and her collaboration with 'Border Czar' Tom Homan.

Noem, who has served as South Dakota's governor since 2019, gained national recognition for her resistance to pandemic lockdowns and mandates. She previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Noem has been on Capitol Hill to garner support for her confirmation, including a meeting with Sen. Paul, who has indicated his intention to prioritize her confirmation process.
