Teenager Charged with Murder of Desert Storm Veteran in Orlando

A 15-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Angela Sutton Washington, a Desert Storm veteran, four months after the incident occurred near a strip mall in Orlando, Florida. The Orlando Police Department announced the arrest, crediting the diligent work of their Homicide Detectives, community cooperation, and Central Florida Crimeline.

Washington's son, Fernando Washington, expressed his grief and frustration, stating that while the situation is difficult to process, it is sadly not unexpected given the current climate. He hopes his mother's death will spark positive change in the community, emphasizing the senselessness of such violence.

Washington was a regular shopper at the strip mall where she was killed, located close to her home. Detective Barb Sharp highlighted the tragic nature of the crime, describing Washington as a cherished daughter, mother, and grandmother who was simply running an errand when she was shot. Reports indicate that Washington was likely not the intended target, with the shooting potentially stemming from a group of men gathered outside the convenience store.

Community leader Bishop Kelvin Cobaris expressed his dismay over a young person being involved in such a serious crime, pointing out the devastating consequences for both the victim and the suspect. He lamented the loss of Washington, who served her country in Desert Storm, only to become a victim of senseless violence.
